Vifor Pharma launched its first Graduate Program three years ago, designed to support future high performing individuals, become an employer of choice for high potentials graduates who will join our mission to help patients lead better, healthier lives.
Today meet Patrick Schüepp, our latest Technical Operations Graduate, who started his 2-year graduate program at the beginning of February 2021 within the Supply Chain team. Patrick will be based in St. Gallen for one year before he continues his program for 12 months in Lisbon continuing his journey in our Technical Operations organization.

Tell us more about yourself and why you applied for this Program with Vifor Pharma?
Before starting this exciting role at Vifor Pharma, I started with an apprenticeship as a chemical laboratory technician at Roche, followed by a Bachelor at the University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) and a Master at the University of Zurich in Chemistry and Business Studies. I also had previous experiences at Novartis in the field of Green Chemistry and at Janssen in Market Access, confirming and strengthening my passion for the pharmaceutical industry. I signed-up because I did not want to miss the chance to get to know four departments at two different locations in the technical Operations area in a 2-year program. This will allow me to gain many different experiences and insights into the company and explore in which area I see myself fitting best for a future career at Vifor Pharma.
In addition, the size of the company and the values such as entrepreneurship, teamwork, trust and respect appealed to me. I think they make a (real) difference at work!
Which projects will you be working on during the Graduate Program?
The program starts in the supply chain and my first project is to investigate the presence of Vifor Pharma in the US market. I am actively supported by various colleagues from Vifor Pharma and can build up an understanding of Vifor Pharma, its products and approach. Later on, I will move on to production in St. Gallen and then finally to Quality (QA/QC) in Lisbon followed by technical project management.
Which elements of the program are you most excited to experience?
This is a difficult question! The program offers many exciting elements. I think the insight and the collaboration in the four different departments combined with the possibility to go abroad to Lisbon is what I am looking forward to the most.
What are the next steps in your Graduate Program and what are your expectations?
The first thing is to get to know the company and the employees better. The possibilities for future projects will also be assessed. This is regularly followed by discussions about my personal development and where I can improve further.
In terms of expectations, I just want to work on many exciting projects that could enable me to gain an insight into the different departments and build up a network within the company. This way I can develop myself and support the company on its way to being the global leader in iron deficiency, nephrology and cardio-renal therapies.
