Vifor Pharma is committed to high environmental standards. We are dedicated to using resources efficiently and minimising our impact on the environment. Our production sites are guided by ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management. Vifor Pharma’s sites are now, one by one, adjusting to the new, enhanced standard.
ISO 14001 is an internationally agreed standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system. It helps organisations improve their environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste. The benefits of operating according to the ISO 14001 standard include:
- cost savings due to greater emphasis on resource, waste and energy management
- reduced impact of operations on the environment
- continuous improvement process embedded in the company’s objectives
- ensured legislative awareness and compliance
- enhanced corporate image and credibility
In order for a production site to obtain the ISO 14001 certification a wide range of policies, protocols and procedures are required, ensuring that impacts on the environment are kept to a minimum.
ISO 14001 was first published in 1996, revised in 2004 and replaced again in 2015. This latest 2015 standard consists of various improvements, like an increased importance of environmental management within the organisation’s strategic planning, greater inclusion of leadership and a stronger commitment to proactive initiatives that boost environmental performance.
Two of Vifor Pharma’s production sites – Ettingen and St. Gallen – have already successfully obtained the new 2015 certification. Congratulations! The other three sites are expecting the certification within this or next year. We are proud to actively contribute to efforts reducing waste and protecting the environment where we can. Way to go!
